REGINA HPE chain (maintenance-free), the coating applied to the surfaces of the bushings and rollers of the HPE chain made of tetrahedral amorphous carbon (ta-C) is currently considered the most advanced DLC coating. This combines high hardness with a low coefficient of friction and makes regular relubrication unnecessary while promising at least the same service life as with a normal chain. A chain drive with an HPE chain does not require ta-C-coated front and rear sprockets.
When installing a new HPE chain, it is strongly recommended to replace the front and rear and replace the sprockets with new ones. Sprockets must be made of steel!
